Jon Favreau’s The Lion King continues to do gangbusters at the box office where it has amassed $1.33 billion (£1.24 billion) globally since it was released on 19 July. Thanks to another strong weekend at the box office, the photorealistic CGI remake of the 1994 animation has overtaken 2017’s Beauty and the Beast lifetime gross of $1.26 billion (£1.047 billion) to become the studio’s most successful film beyond the Marvel and Star Wars franchises. Not only that, but it’s also now the 12th highest grossing worldwide release of all-time, and - if we’re counting it as an animated film, like the film’s own VFX supervisor is - it’s now Disney’s most successful animation of all time too besting 2013’s Frozen's $1.276 billion (£1.057 billion) haul.

But fans of 'Mr Worldwide' are being played all along, as a suited gentleman with a bald head and loafers with no socks ogles a series of gyrating women. As the clip for Pitbull's new single 3 To Tango enters its climactic final act, the suited gent in the seat stands up, and we discover that it was none other than... John Travolta all along. He then joins three ladies to show off his tango skills. It's not all as random as it seems – Travolta and the Miami-born rapper are, for some reason, pals. Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus has said the band were "locked down" in a hotel following the mass shooting in El Paso. The group had been due to play a show at the UTEP Don Haskins Arena in the Texas border town when 20 people were killed and more than two dozen injured in a shooting in a busy shopping centre. Hoppus said the band were leaving breakfast and due to head to the mall when they heard reports of the shooting. He added there were initially incorrect reports that another attack was also taking place at another mall. He wrote on Twitter: "We are locked down in our hotel in El Paso. Over the intercom system they just announced that there are reports of another active shooter directly across the street at a location different from the first shootings.

Three days after a federal jury ruled that Katy Perry's 2013 hit "Dark Horse" had improperly copied another artist's song, the singer was hit with sizable damages. During a hearing on Thursday to determine damages, a jury found that Perry and her musical collaborators, including producer Dr. Luke, who worked with her on the single, will have to pay $2.78 million. The jury awarded the sizable sum to Christian rapper Marcus Gray -- who performs under the stage name "Flame" -- and his two co-writers on the 2009 single "Joyful Noise" -- the song that a jury decided Perry's tune had significantly copied.
